Serve 2023

A Note From Pastor Michele

It never ceases to amaze me how, without fail, Sundays always happen. Now, I don’t mean the actual day of the week. I mean what happens on Sunday here at St. James. Pulling into the parking lot at Franklin, it’s very rare that I am the first one there. As soon as I walk in the door, the aroma of fresh coffee greets me followed by a wave of “Good morning, Pastor Micheles!” As I make my way upstairs, the lights are on, the soundboard is ready for mic checks, and there are about a half dozen people set up to greet everyone as they arrive. Capehart is no different; as soon as I turn into the parking lot, it’s obvious that what awaits me inside are dozens of people making sure everything is ready to go for worship.

Every Sunday, this happens. Not because of Pastor Matt. Not because of me. It happens because of…YOU! Each of you giving of your time and talents to serve the church ensures that the work on the church continues regardless of who is preaching. And it’s not just on Sundays. Volunteers help ensure weeknight programming such as United Wednesdays and St. James Youth happen. It’s your commitment to serving the church that allows others to grow in their relationship with God and others through Bible studies and special interest groups.

St. James is St. James because of you. Because, together, you have chosen to be an active part of the church through serving. One of my friends says, “We look most like Jesus when we serve” and I couldn’t agree more. Last week, I mentioned the old phrase WWJD (What Would Jesus Do) in my sermon and it is apparent St. James is a church that understands WWJD. He would serve. Thank you. For serving. For being the church. And, for showing others what is means to be like Jesus. I am grateful for each of you.

The cool thing about serving in the church is there are opportunities for everyone! If you haven’t already done so, I encourage you to sign up to serve today. Check out the opportunities listed below and then sign up using the registration link.

With Joy,

Michele
