St. James United Methodist Church has been a part of the Bellevue community since 1957, when the congregation was first established as part of the Great Plains Conference of The United Methodist Church. Over the decades, St. James has grown into a vibrant, multi‑campus church with a strong commitment to worship, discipleship, and community outreach.
The church’s long pastoral history reflects steady leadership and deep roots in the area. Pastors serving St. James have included Rev. Robert Folkers (1991–2002), Rev. Joe Scahill (2002-2008), Rev. Russell Tompkins (2008–2019), Rev. Shane Britt (2020–2022), and currently Pastor Matt Fowler, who began his appointment in 2022. These leaders, along with associate pastors over the years, have helped shape the church’s identity as a welcoming, mission‑minded congregation.
Today, St. James continues to serve Bellevue from its Franklin Street and Capehart locations, offering multiple worship services, active small groups, and a strong presence in local mission efforts. With a history rooted in faith and a heart for community, St. James remains committed to making disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world.

St. James United Methodist Church seeks to be a welcoming, Christ‑centered community where people grow in faith, serve with compassion, and share God’s love with our neighbors, our military families, and the wider world. We envision a church where worship inspires, relationships deepen, and every person finds a place to belong, to serve, and to be transformed by grace.
Tired of doing life alone?
We believe transformation happens in relationship. Through small groups and shared life, we grow, care, and become more like Christ — together.

Want a two-way conversation with God?
Prayer is our lifeline. It’s how we share our joys and concerns with God and receive His peace. Whether alone or together, we commit to daily connection with the One who listens.

Want Thanksgiving every week?
We gather weekly to sing, pray, and celebrate God’s goodness. Worship is our joyful response to grace — and yes, there’s food and friendship too!

Want a two-way conversation about the Bible?
We honor Scripture’s authority and welcome loving dialogue. Faith grows through study, curiosity, and shared understanding.

Want your family to thrive, not just survive?
God cares deeply about families. We support every stage of life with opportunities to grow, serve, and connect — from toddlers to grandparents.
