Small Groups

At St. James, we believe faith grows best in circles, not rows. Sunday worship gathers us as one body, but small groups give us space to go deeper—into Scripture, into community, and into the everyday rhythms of following Jesus. Our small groups are designed to help people connect meaningfully, ask honest questions, support one another, and discover how God is at work in their lives.

Whether you’re exploring faith for the first time or seeking a place to belong and grow, small groups offer a welcoming environment where relationships form naturally and spiritual growth becomes a shared journey. Each group has its own personality and focus, but all share the same purpose: to help us live out our faith together with intention, authenticity, and grace.

Women's Ministry

United Women in Faith (UWIF)

The women’s ministry of The United Methodist Church, a vibrant and mission‑driven sisterhood committed to putting love into action. Rooted in spiritual growth and guided by a long legacy of service, this organization equips and empowers women to make a meaningful difference in the lives of women, children, and youth—locally and around the world.

United Women in Faith fosters spiritual development, leadership, and community through prayer, study, fellowship, and hands‑on mission. Members engage in compassionate service, advocate for justice, and support initiatives that address issues such as education, economic inequality, human rights, and the well‑being of families.

At its heart, United Women in Faith is a place where women of all ages, backgrounds, and life experiences can grow together, deepen their faith, and boldly live it out. Whether through small groups, mission projects, learning opportunities, or advocacy efforts, members show up with purpose—working to transform communities with grace, courage, and hope.

Women’s Bible Study

Our Women’s Bible Study meets on Mondays from 2–4 p.m. at our Capehart location. This is a welcoming space for women of all ages to grow in faith, build friendships, and explore Scripture together.
Our study materials rotate every 4–6 weeks, offering fresh perspectives and meaningful conversations throughout the year. We also pause periodically, including during the summer months and the month of December.
The group is led by Janet Wilberger, who is happy to answer questions or provide more information.  Janet can be reached at

Coffee & Devotions with Matt

Come as you are to a weekly space where faith meets real life over warm coffee and genuine conversation. Whether we gather on Monday mornings at Panera or Tuesday mornings at First Watch, the heart of these gatherings is the same: a gentle rhythm of spiritual reflection, heartfelt dialogue, and authentic community.

Each week, Pastor Matt offers a devotional moment that opens the door to deeper conversation. Some arrive with questions or something on their hearts to share. Others come simply to listen, be encouraged, and rest in the presence of community. What began as simple stops along the way have become meaningful rituals—welcoming circles where newcomers find belonging, longtime members deepen relationships, and the Spirit moves through shared stories and open dialogue.

These gatherings honor questions, nurture spiritual growth, and create space for God’s presence to be felt in both quiet moments and lively discussion. For many, they’ve become sacred touchpoints in the week—rooted in grace, guided by scripture, and enriched by the voices around the table.

All are welcome. Come as you are, and see where the Spirit leads.

United Wednesday

Each Wednesday evening, our St. James family gathers at the Capehart campus for a midweek time of connection, learning, and renewal. We begin at 5:30 p.m. with a shared meal—an easy, welcoming space to slow down, enjoy good food, and spend time with one another.

At 6:00 p.m., we move into the sanctuary for a Pastor‑led Bible study, where we explore Scripture together, ask questions, and grow in faith as a community.

United Wednesday is designed to nourish both body and spirit. Whether you’re coming from work, bringing the family, or joining us for the first time, you’ll find a place to belong and a midweek moment of grace.
